My Vis5D system (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vis5D)
for visualizing weather simulations was written in a
mix of Fortran and C (1988), the Fortran being legacy
code from previous systems dating back to the early
1970s. We gradually replaced the Fortran with C,
except for the "stub" programs we supplied to help
scientists read their file formats into our system (I
suspect that some are still using Fortran to convert
data).
