The document illustrates what Bill Hibbard and MIRI look like as a team. It
looks like a lamentable alliance to me - but I suppose we should gratefully
accept whatever Bill offers us.
Not lamentable. I am proud to be a Research
Associate with MIRI, which has been making
a lot of outreach to the mainstream AI and
CS community. This outreach is important.
It is lamentable that there is so little
support for research on ethical AI. The last
section of my book describes this situation.
Outreach to the AI mainstream by MIRI will
hopefully help generate more funding for
research on ethical AI. (Note some MIRI folks
don't like the term 'ethical AI' - one of
many issues on which I respectfully disagree.)
