Colin, One piece of this puzzle is my new microscope design which is now working its way through the U.S. Patent Office. It will be able to watch and record the rapidly changing chemistry at points in neurons, dendrites, and synapses in living cells WITHOUT impaling them with electrodes or even gaining direct access to them, and do this at UV resolution. This should go a LONG way to understanding them.
