Prediction: Yet again they will head for what they think is AGI and they will actually spawn a generalised version of narrow AI that will fail in the face of certain kinds of deep novelty because the builders fail to realise that their consciousness is invisibly and unknowingly smuggled into the pseudo-grounding intrinsic to everything their approach does. Deep Mind will make useful things. Yes! Great. Bring it on. But they will not make AGI. Industrial scale, automated narrow-AI is not AGI. They don't even understand what AGI is. Seen it all before. So forget any DEFCON anything until there is a non-zero probability of a robot coming out to the podium and is a functionally verifiable scientist to everyone there by teaching the audience something nobody else on earth knows.
