Jordan (and Bill) You have obviously missed the point of this discussion. I have NOTHING wrong with technological transparency or people publishing their AGI work in open source form. However, like child pornography, another form of dangerous publication, I believe that people shouldn't openly PROMOTE that OTHERS do this, especially since there is a very real possibility that it might motivate some crazy to come after ME (or you) even before there is an AGI.
It isn't transparency or open source here that is at the heart of this discussion, but rather the PETITION which seeks to CLOSE many people's minds and establish that we ARE dangerous as it opens up AGI software. OPEN your own mind.. Go ahead and publish (I sure have) and participate in open source software sharing, but stop creating an image of impending danger for crazies to react to. Have you noticed that one of the participants on this AGI forum has adopted the name of the AGI developer in the *Terminator* series - whom the series writer established it was OK to assassinate to stop his work? People are already publicly promoting killing US. How can anyone be so stupid as to posture themselves to look even more dangerous to these crazies? To many people, we look MORE dangerous than any abortion clinic operator, and THEY have been assassinated.
