Hopefully an explanation based on logical primitives and meditation will suffice. If one meditates on "the beginning" or what came before anything else, then one arrives at emptiness, void or nothing. What happened next? Well clearly it was NOT nothing, thus the logical primitive "NOT", is foremost in creation. Wheras the feeling of emptiness, is dark, silent, numb/cold Now what is the feeling of "NOT"? If we do a logical negation, it is bright, loud and painful/hot. The pupil of the eye is dark, as it negates (NOT's) all/most incoming photons, by consuming them the body can then become aware of them. Unlike in the classical view, in the quantum view, there is no true "destruction", only transformation, so when a photon is "NOT"ed by the eye, it becomes something else, in this instance a message sent to the occipital lobe, where it goes through further transformation until it may become part of the conscious image. So this act of transformation, and how many times it is transformed (NOTed), and eventually released as "feedback" is the measure of consciousness espoused by IIT as far as I understand it. In conclusion NOT and other trans-formative logical primitives are the building blocks of awareness. So for example a rock, which takes photons and transforms them to be it's own likeness and sends them back, could be considered a very simple consciousness, as it only has one layer of negation.
