What about the AGIs that people are building or working towards, such as those from Novamente, AdaptiveAI, Hall, etc.? Do/Will your systems have "sleep periods" for internal maintenance and improvement? If so, what types of activities do they perform during sleep?
This topic was discussed in this list (?) before, and as far as I can remember, several people (including me) argued for the necessity of some kind of sleeping and dreaming in AGI systems. My own system (NARS, http://nars.wang.googlepages.com/) hasn't reached that stage yet, though I'm quite sure that when the system becomes complicated enough, it will need to "sleep" (though not necessarily in a 24-hour cycle). During that period, the input/output threshold is raised ("eyes" closed ...) and the processes are deactivated, though some of them will still go on, and often follow less established paths, because of the lessening of resources competition.
