Hi all,
I have a 2 liter Alfa Engine that someone sealed up with Permatex the last
time it was apart. I got the engine out of a wrecked junk car a few years ago
so I don't know the history on it. I am trying to get the head off so I can
use it to repair a Spider with a cracked head and then use the block to repair
a GTV with a spun bearing.
Anyhow, the head refuses to come off. Yes, the two bolts in the front are
out and all the head nuts are off and I have made PB Blaster rich ;-) I have
rope in the two end cylinders, two Alfa head removal tools installed and
tight, put a hydraulic jack on the block webs and had them pushing up on the
intake and exhaust ports all at the same time and using a nylon strap have the
engine hanging by the head from a hoist. By beating with a bfh on the Alfa
Tools and keeping pressure on everything else I have managed to get the head
to the top of the studs and installed spacers between the studs and the tool
but it refuses to go any farther. I even took my torch and put heat on the
studs today still to no avail. I am almost at the point of cutting the studs
and then removing them one at a time with a press.
Does anyone have any more ideas that I haven't tried already? Thanks
