over the years i've had heads which were really stuck as you describe.there
was no way to remove them.maybe one in ten.i built a removal devise which
worked well.a piece of metal about an inch thick to which i drilled holes for
the 12 camshaft bolts to attach and ten threaded towers for the head bolts
whereby i was able to apply pressure to the bolts one at a time.i found that
if you'd apply pressure unevenly you'd strip the camshaft bolts so it had to
be done slowly and carefully.i removed a number of real stuck tight head that
way but eventually the tool wore out and i havn't found a machinest to renew
it so far.this is a common problem with the 2.0 head.i would suggest that you
slam it back down onto the block and spay in wd40 or whatever then pick it up
and down.it probably wont work but maybe you'll have luck.the other option is
what you mentioned.cut the bolts and save the head and any other parts you can
salvage.

Hi all,
I have a 2 liter Alfa Engine that someone sealed up with Permatex the
last
time it was apart. I got the engine out of a wrecked junk car a few years
ago
so I don't know the history on it. I am trying to get the head off so I can
use it to repair a Spider with a cracked head and then use the block to
repair
a GTV with a spun bearing.
Anyhow, the head refuses to come off. Yes, the two bolts in the front
are
out and all the head nuts are off and I have made PB Blaster rich ;-) I have
rope in the two end cylinders, two Alfa head removal tools installed and
tight, put a hydraulic jack on the block webs and had them pushing up on the
intake and exhaust ports all at the same time and using a nylon strap have
the
engine hanging by the head from a hoist. By beating with a bfh on the Alfa
Tools and keeping pressure on everything else I have managed to get the head
to the top of the studs and installed spacers between the studs and the tool
but it refuses to go any farther. I even took my torch and put heat on the
studs today still to no avail. I am almost at the point of cutting the studs
and then removing them one at a time with a press.
Does anyone have any more ideas that I haven't tried already? Thanks
