The calipers are oriented correctly, yes.

This is a LeMons car, after all.  The hoses look fine.  If the proportioning
valve doesn't solve the problem, I will replace them.  That said, I'm not
sure how bad hoses would cause the problem we're seeing.

If swelling hoses were causing the pedal to drop, then I would think we
would not be able to pump up the system and get any pressure.  The fact is,
we can pump up the pedal and get great pressure, release the pedal, then 10
seconds later the pedal will sink to the floor on one pump.
