hey paul, the gasket stuck to the head or block is not the problem.the bolts which come up thru the head aquire dirt and or foriegn matter the result of electrolysis between the iron bolts and the alum.head.this causes the head to become stuck to the head(bolts).do the rope trick.who knows maybe it will work.good luck.you see after the head moves a little it doesnt mean your out of the woods yet.the foreign matter continues to act as a brake on the head/bolt path. --- On Sun, 7/18/10, Paul Hempstead <[email protected]> wrote:
From: Paul Hempstead <[email protected]> Subject: [alfa] Stuck head gasket To: [email protected] Date: Sunday, July 18, 2010, 12:19 PM Hello all, I was up till 4:00 am working or releasing a head from a 2-liter. We made a plate puller and used wood and hammer. it is out of the car. we may try the rope in the chamber from Braden's book, but would have to use an impact wrench on the crank pulley nut to get the compression. Tempted to use gasket scraper to GENTLY hammer around the seam. the engine hasn't been running in 10 yrs, and hasn't been apart for probably 20. any advise would be greatly appreciated paul hempstead 73 spider-- to be removed from alfa, see http://www.digest.net/bin/digest-subs.cgi or email "unsubscribe alfa" to [email protected] -- to be removed from alfa, see http://www.digest.net/bin/digest-subs.cgi or email "unsubscribe alfa" to [email protected]
