Bruce, the mirror motors don't have a solenoid. The clicking sound is the motor trying to move the gears, but can't because it needs a push. If you look behind (I don't think it is visible from the front even with the mirror removed), you'll (hopefully) see the black gear on the motor moving with the switch on while trying to move it up or down.
