Yeah. now this is kinda off topic too but have you noted how IE ain't liked by JAWS either? So I switched to Chrome. Now in that vane that says awwww man I love good old trusty IE though. Girrrrr I can't stand some of the things Chrome does with Youtube. but oh wells I guess. Tough love. For instance the vid right under the recommended heading in Chrome don't get an add to watch later button. In trusty old Internet Explorer all vids git an add to watch later button. In IE it respects you may wana go back and watch another recommended vid from the origenal list. Chrome Fire Fox and I'll bet ya Edge tottally dissrespectfull. Watch 1 vid long enough and when you go back the origenal list went bie bie. How rood as Jar Jar Binks says.

For example, my Window Eyes screen reader is now defunct. I can still use it, but it's getting more difficult with web pages now, certainly now it is useless with Firefox. So I've moved on to JAWS 18. It works better in numerous ways, and it's faster as well. So when something stops working as well as something that's still being developed, then I'm moving on.

All and good for you then but its not all and good for everything though is it? I’m not against Winamp at all and as I mentioned earlier I used the software but even for me it became too bloated and I was left wondering exactly what the aims of the developers of Winamp were, to make something flashy or something that actually worked. As I said earlier I was having trouble playing some content so I decided at that point to “Move on”, no regrets whatever there.

There are a whole heap of different audio formats but that’s really not the point. As Windows evolves and changes that the software running on it has to evolve with Windows.

Being kept up to date how? How many new audio formats have you heard about in the last few years? So what's to be kept up to date with these newer players? The user interface? As several others have already pointed out, Winamp has an excellent user interface. New audio formats that Winamp can't play? Well, I've already asked that question. So what's the urgent imperative for being kept up to date with these players?

And here lies the point,, what new things we have in this discussion say VLC and Windows Media player are better than what you had as they’re being developed and deliberately being kept up to date, user feedback is being evaluated with regards to these and future products. So look at the subject line which talks about a new version for Winamp, where is it?

But there's another alternative to either changing all the time or staying behind. Change when what is new is significantly better than what you have now. Change just for the sake of change is pointless.

I’ve given this topic more thought and I think what it really boils down to is that people don’t like change regardless how good or bad something might be compared to another App, another method or whatever so here’s the point, take onboard change or stay behind and eventually stagnate.

Tom for those of us who have only kinda run across WinAmp. What made it such a big thing with the blind? Maybe I didn't give it much a chance. But actually the 1 I  used felt odd. But I only tried it. But seeing it doesn't have SRS Wow like Media Player does, I don't use it much. Meh I've tried it for streaming but that's about all. I do know lots of people love WinAmp. I have homies that do.

Dane,

Winamp is the most accessible media player for the blind. It may be
old, but it is highly functional. I am listening to online radio with it as I type this message.  Braille slates are more than 80 years old but they are still used because they are useful.  I also own and use a
minidisc recorder. It is somewhat ancient, but it remains highly
effective for spoken word recording.

By Mayank Parmar - September 17, 2018 Winamp for Windows Remember
Winamp?
The popular media player for Windows is expected to make
a
comeback at some point. Winamp was launched by independent developers
back
in 1997 and it grew quickly popular with over 3 million downloads in a
short
span of time. In a couple of years, Winamp became one of the most downloaded Windows applications. The app was sold to AOL in 1999 for
$80
million but it later acquired by Radionomy in 2014. Radionomy, the
current
developers of famous Winamp promised that the app will receive a new update with several new features. A while ago, the developers published release notes of an update but no downloadable package was available
for
users to try out. Winamp developers promised major updates ever since
it
took over the company and we are
still
waiting for that day. It's an old and outdated app but it's still being
used by millions of
users.
A new version of Winamp, which was last developed on October 26, 2016,
has
leaked online. Winamp 5.8 has been published by an unknown source and
it's
not from the official developers. It's also worth noting that
VirusTotal
scan generates two different
warnings
for the app, so we are not including the link to unreleased Winamp
update
in
this article. Winamp works fine on Windows 10 The Winamp 5.8 comes with several new features and improvements including support for Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. It is, however, worth noting that public and stable
version of the app
works
smoothly on Windows 10, but Winamp 5.8 is supposed to address
compatibility
issues with Windows 10. As noted above, this release of Winamp comes
with
several other improvements. For example, there's a dedicated setting
that
lets you
disable
Winamp's video support and the company has also fixed some bugs to
improve
the overall performance of the player. The current owner hasn't
officially
announced any updates for the app but
as
the beta has just leaked out, there's a chance that an official
statement
will be released soon. It's also possible that the developers are
internally
testing a new and improved version of the app with better support for Windows 10. At this point, it's not yet known whether a new Winamp
release
is planned
or
not. We are waiting for additional details from the developers and we
will
update this article if and when a statement is available.
********** Those of a positive and enquiring frame of mind will leave
the
rest of the halfwits in this world behind.
