Points taken. Thankfully with the Zoom F8N you can connect a number of independent power supplies apart from the battery of the IOS device or the batteries of the recorder itself if it indeed is using any. The power supply arrangement is quite complex and very flexible. The Zoom F8N can be configured to run from any voltage between 9 and 18 volts so this means that the recorder can be run from a very wide range of power sources and battery packs. Further to this the recorder can shutdown when the voltage falls below a certain level or switch to an alternate power source. An example of this perhaps would be when the batteries themselves get low, the recorder can switch to a custom made battery backup.

Any of the H6's choices that end with battery mean that it'll use it's own batteries. I wish there were a way to put an external battry between the IPhone or IPad and the H6. You can power the H6 with those power bank things to recharge your IPhone.
