What you propose is to have a replacement of 1, 2 or 3 minus signs with an
hyphen, an en dash or en em dash regardless if they have spaces around them or
not.
As you know, those dashes are punctuation signs and punctuation rules vary from
language (and its local usages) to language.
So for which language (and local usage) should this apply.
Please references of th punctuation rules.
