I'm no great rose gardener, and haven't tried anything new and fancy, but it seems there are lots of roses doing splendidly here in zone 2-3, we have a 4 or 5, including rugosas, but not only; no disease problems that i have noticed; no special care taken with soil..somewhat clayey native soil, not sure of ph.. ..of course the native R acicularis is *practically* a weed here (to me, native plants cannot be weeds) self sown all over the acreage from sun to quite deep shade..
