Thank you _so_ much for giving me that link to the article. It was very
interesting and I printed a copy to put in my "hepatica" folder.
It does seem that Hepaticas are in some sort of demand. :-) I'm sure
that Graham Stuart Thomas would refer to them as "garden toys or
trifles", but for some reason, people like them a lot despite their
small stature and shy habits. I guess that no matter how tiny your
garden, you probably have room for a Hepatica or two.
I think what I need to do is to do some cataloging this year and get
pictures of them in new foliage and then maybe later when the marbling
fades. Then maybe I can post some of those pictures online and let
people comment.
I do have Hepatica maxima and I also like it for it's furriness, but
there has been no crossing that I noticed, and in fact Hepatica maxima
seems to be shy reseeding, unlike most of the others. I also like it's
size- it is a "huge honking hepatica". I am worried that it has been
chewed on by the $...@^* rodents. I will see when I get around to
repotting it.

I can't recommend a book for identifying hepatica hybrids. Perhaps someone
else will jump in.

I grow H. maxima and some other species but as far as I know they have not
crossed. Maxima I love. It's so furry. A friend said that in the rain, it
looks like a wet cat.
