I took this picture a while back. I used to have an interest in tropical orchids which lead to my interest in temperate, terrestrial orchids—it was a long convoluted journey. In a sense, this picture captures just how far afield I have gone with Orchids. Of course I should explain, this is a seed pod for a temperate, terrestrial orchid. For those that are “orchid nuts” the idea that temperate Orchids die out rather quickly without winter cold is almost unbelievable. It turns out that these plants when well sited can be an interesting addition to the rock garden.
