I'm always surprised that some folks can and do overwinter these orchids in the ground, as I've tried several times as have a few friends here in Maine and there has never been success.

For whatever reason, these orchids do not seem to seed around too vigorously like the native species can. I have even gone so far as to actually purposefully sow the seeds from the pods onto some promising areas with very modest germination rates(read: one or two plants, if I am lucky). Fortunately these orchids divide easily as a means of propagation.
