I sent seed of Castilleja miniata, C. rhexifolia and C. sulphurea to a fellow grower at a botanical garden in Austria. He has tried every combination of techniques (light, dark, stratification, sowing with a "host", etc.) and has only gotten 3 C. miniata seedlings. I collected the seed myself from the wild-growing plants in my backyard. It was definitely ripe. I have never tried to germinate seed of those particular 3 Castilleja species as I have a ton of them naturally growing and spreading. Has anyone had good success with germinating any of these 3 Castilleja species, either indoors or in situ? By the way, I have been able to transplant the naturally-germinated seedlings and mature plants of all 3 above-mentioned species to my garden and to my neighbor's garden with no problem (and I did not include a nearby "host" species in the relocation).
