I've been trying and failing to get sound to work on my latop. It's a Fujitsu Lifebook L-470.
I've attempted to get things running with Red Hat 9 as well as SuSE 9.0, all to no avail. (I currently have SuSE 9.0 installed, although I may be trying Fedora Core 1 shortly.) And yet, I know it *can* be done, from reading reviews of using Linux on this laptop. One example is at: <http://www.linux-mag.com/2000-01/laptop_08.html>. "We were pleased with the fact that both the ESS ES1879 Audiodrive sound chip and the Neomagic NM2160 video chip worked with the standard OSS and XFree86 drivers included in 2.2 distributions like Red Hat 6.0. This made installing Red Hat Linux on the L470 a snap." According to the manual, the built-in sound "card" is compatable with the "Sound Blaster Pro". Although while both RH9 and SuSE 9.0 have the SoundBlaster Pro on the list of cards they can work with, neither one is able to detect it. I've gone to the Alsa website (where I found out about this mailing list) and tried installing what I thought was the approperiate driver, with no luck. Might other people have any suggestions as to what I can do to get things running? Thanks in advance!
