A small jelly/jam jar and a plastic syringe can build a small unit that is 
capable of pullinga partial pressure equivalent to a few thousand of feet of 
altitude. The syringe markings can providerelative indication of the partial 
vacuum.  Also automotive stores are stocking hand vacuum pumps with gauge a 
reasonable price.  Both approaches have been useful additions to the test
