If the daily backups fit on one tape, the you would use more inches
of that tape, but the price would be just the same (1 tape), and moreover
it would be easier to recover from those tapes, than to get the tape
with full dumps from your offside location.  So that's an argument
to make a full backup for archiving purposes in the weekends, and
let amanda do normal runs for the dailies doing both fulls & incrementals
and daily restores.

ps. my previous post was not about your problem, but about the hint
    that you probably use software AND hardware compression, which
    is counterproductive (tapespeed and tapespace), but correcting
    that would not solve the problem you have now ofcourse.
