Yes, if the list processor implements rfc2919 (see
<http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2919>); then simply check for the existence of the
'List-ID' header. Mailman, iirc, also adds 'X-BeenThere'. Sieve, as an example, is
able to deal with them properly without any further user intervention as to suppress
auto-replies.

That messes with other things that I have learned to work around most of the
time, so to me it would not be a big show stopping deal if that List-ID: header
line were to be added.

There are even more headers which are useful in providing extra information
about the list - the following example is copied from a Linux kernel list
(using mailman):

<quote>
X-BeenThere:    [email protected]
List-Id: Linux on PowerPC Developers Mail List
<linuxppc-dev.lists.ozlabs.org>
List-Unsubscribe:       <https://lists.ozlabs.org/options/linuxppc-dev>,
<mailto:[email protected]?subject=unsubscribe>
List-Archive:   <http://lists.ozlabs.org/pipermail/linuxppc-dev>
List-Post:      <mailto:[email protected]>
List-Help:      <mailto:[email protected]?subject=help>
List-Subscribe: <https://lists.ozlabs.org/listinfo/linuxppc-dev>,
<mailto:[email protected]?subject=subscribe>
</quote>

Could be a cure for those frequent how-do-I-unsubscribe questions...

Cheers, Albrecht.
