We've talked about this as a possibility for a while. I think the dominant proposal has been to have a client-side utility which would basically invoke 'amdump myhostname --no-taper' on the server, via SSH or perhaps via the Amanda protocol. Like most of the (great) suggestions this "Nitpick" proposal has generated, this one has been floating around for a while, but hasn't seen any action due to the project's very limited developer resources.
