Hi Jon,
I will check, but from an Ubuntu perspective I'm just a 'dumb' user and
apply updates.
I did run the dump interactively after it failed and it completed, so
maybe tar by itself may not be the only issue.
Is there a way to confirm that tar may be the problem. I have looked at
the .debug logs, but they don't report any errors as far as I can tell.
Thanks
Leo

Hi,
Have been using Amanda for years on Ubuntu and backups were ok until
about 4 days ago.
I received an Amanda Report containing the following
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hostname: ml.zudiewiener.com
Org : MyConfig
Config : MyConfig
Date : November 26, 2013
These dumps were to tape MyConfig30.
The next tape Amanda expects to use is: MyConfig01.
FAILURE DUMP SUMMARY:
ml.zudiewiener.com /home/llist lev 0 FAILED [/usr/libexec/amanda/runtar
terminated with signal 11: see
/var/log/amanda/client/MyConfig/sendsize.20131126030003.debug]

Checking the .debug file, I didn't see anything out of the ordinary.
The following morning, the system just hung and after a reboot I
checked the syslog and saw that the system was logging until 03:00
AM (which is when the backup starts) after which there were no more
log entries. I rebooted and the same thing happened again the next
morning.
I checked the kernel log and saw the following:
general protection fault: 0000 [#2] SMP
-------------------------------
I think it's related to the tar porcess, but not sure what to try
next, but right now I can't use amanda
Thanks,
Leo

There have been tar releases that were incompatible with amanda.
Have you recently updated tar?
Can you revert to a previous version?
