Look around for files besides the “service” files, which state what the user
name
is supposed to be.

my username is “operator”, so grepping for that, I find:

amanda-client.conf has a line in it client-username “operator”
amanda.conf has a line dumpuser “operator”

and when I compiled amanda (which you may not have done, so maybe this
doesn’t count)
I told it what the username was supposed to be. I *think* that the above
files override
the compiled value.

Try grepping for “backup” in your amanda directory (ies) since that
would find
backup or amandabackup.
