Well despite the fact that I made amrecover work yesterday, all dle's on
that machine failed last night.

On the server, after doing a sudo -i:
root@coyote:~# su amanda -c "/usr/local/sbin/amcheck Daily"
Amanda Tape Server Host Check

Holding disk /usr/dumps: 748044 MB disk space available, using 747544 MB
Searching for label 'Dailys-3':found in slot 3: volume 'Dailys-3'
Will write to volume 'Dailys-3' in slot 3.
NOTE: skipping tape-writable test
Server check took 0.201 seconds

Amanda Backup Client Hosts Check

WARNING: shop: selfcheck request failed: tcpm_recv_token: invalid

\"backup\"\n"
Client check: 3 hosts checked in 2.520 seconds. 1 problem found.

(brought to you by Amanda 3.3.7p1)

This despite comparing and finding the files to be identical on both
machines that I think these utilities use.

I have nfs shares so I can us mc to copy stuff around, but I still have
no clue just where the heck the .amandahosts file actually belongs.

The box "lathe" has a /var/lib/amanda/examples directory with several
examples in it, the "shop" box does not, containing only
root@shop:/var/lib/amanda# ls
amandates gnutar-lists

I am about to rip out the wheezy deb's and start copying stuff from the
lathe to the shop, they ought to be identical and they are not. I can't
find ANY amanda packages in /var/cache/apt/archives on the lathe box, so
it its client came from a deb, it was not recorded there. When I build
amanda here, I build it in the /home/amanda directory. But I cannot
recall where it came from on the lathes box.

locate doesn't work on shop, so on lathe:
root@lathe:/usr/lib# ls -lR|grep amandad
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 7196 Jan 21 15:04 libamandad-3.3.7.so
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5282 Jan 21 15:04 libamandad.a
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1130 Jan 21 15:04 libamandad.la
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root     19 Jan 21 15:04 libamandad.so ->
libamandad-3.3.7.so

and on shop:
root@shop:/usr/lib# ls -lR |grep amandad
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 30540 Jul 14 2012 amandad
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9516 Jul 14 2012 libamandad-3.3.1.so
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5106 Jul 14 2012 libamandad.a
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 954 Jul 14 2012 libamandad.la
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root       19 Jul 14  2012 libamandad.so ->
libamandad-3.3.1.so

"lathe" has a /usr/libexec/amanda directory, "shop" has no /usr/libexec
directory. The same dvd installed both systems on identical boxes. I
am about to fire up a root session of mc and make them identical.
