It's possibly this same cause: http://bugzilla.spamassassin.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4518 It is not too bad, zombies are mostly harmless, they only occupy a couple of bytes for process exit status until they are reclaimed. Zombie process does not occupy other resources such as memory.
