The same thing happens on my A4000T (specs here - 
http://mikerye.homeip.net/about_my_computers.html).  I believe it's a bug 
in the "current" version of AmIRC.  It hasn't been updated in a long time.  
I think the only thing you can do is try an older version.  I believe you 
can find older versions in the "old" directory on VaporWare's FTP site 
(ftp.vapor.com).
