Well I have tried every version available on ftp.vapor.org, right back
to the oldest (v2.2). Same result every time, a lethal crash that
completely corrupts my memory and on one occasion even unvalidated
my entire hard drive. Every partition, and I use SmartFileSystem!!!

Fortunately I was able to repair it without error.

Since I ran the program from RAM the only partition it should be even
trying to write to is my System partition as this has ENVARC: on it.

I then took out all my accelerator and additional hardware, so that I
was running a bare 1200. I then put in a old 40MB HD (using FFS). On this I
installed nothing but OS3.1, MUI, and AmIRC.

Ran it, saved prefs - crash, unvalidated HD, corrupted memory.

I have no other problems even close to this magnitude with any
other software, especially nothing capable of unvalidating an entire
SFS HD.

So I'm come to conclusion that either I have a really wierd problem
with my motherboard, or that there is something seriously wrong
somewhere in AmIRC.

So I'm not going to try anymore, it's just not worth it. Can anyone
suggest an alternate IRC client for the Amiga?
