I created the amsn mac forum and this is a total sucess. At first I had to answer manually  to everybody but fast a community of users appeared to answer newbies questions. So now, I don't have time anymore for the forum (university), but when newbies appear, I just tell them to go to the forum and the "community" take care of them and they can look in the archives. So I agree with you, the SF-Forum is crappy, we should just redirect it to Recording Ground.
