I think we should disable spaces support until the next release (be it the 0.97.1 if M$ get their brains in gear, or 0.98). As you say it's not a hugely wanted feature, and I think most users see it as a "nicety" (M$ Messenger has it, so aMSN has it too!) rather than a "necessity".
