Howdy all, K, I promise I have read everything. Probably I have read the answer three hundred times and I am simply too ignorant to recognize it. One thing that may be important: I used Macs for seventeen years before being seduced by the dark side not so very long ago, so I fly by the seat of my pants a lot. But I do RTFM! But I think this time I didn't understand it. HWAT! Hear my tale of woe: -I downloaded Analog 4.11 for my win98-running machine -I extracted it using Conversions Plus -I read the instructions -I had to change the analog.cfg file to analog.cfg.txt to open it. I don't know why; my machine wanted "program.exe" to open anything.cfg. "Program.exe" does not exist (here). But my kind and thoughtful machine lets me change the file to analog.cfg.txt, and then back to analog.cfg after I configure it. Isn't that nice? -I configured: I changed the LOGFILE, OUTFILE, (and the HOSTNAME and HOSTURL, just like you said to)and then I added a HOSTEXCLUDE, which is why I started this adventure to begin with -I took the # away from the OUTFILE and from everything else that had one -I'm pretty sure it analyzed my logfile, because it took significantly longer than the first quick one that gave the example result -No result showed up. I searched the machine for the file name I had designated. Nada. So I tried: -using a file path (for LOGFILE and OUTFILE) beginning with C\ -using a file path (for LOGFILE and OUTFILE) beginning with C:\ (no, I don't know the difference-but I tried them both!) -moving the log file into the same folder as analog.exe -using no file path (for LOGFILE and OUTFILE), just the filename.html -changing the extension of the log file to .log -deleting the original logfile.log (the source of the first example result.html, right?) that came with Analog -designating an already-made blank page with the filename.html for the OUTFILE -trying the whole thing again in DOS (I know just barely enough DOS to cd and run) -reading the instructions again -deleting everything and starting over again from download -checking the archives of this list -calling my PC-using-Darth-Darkside brother. He didn't know what I did wrong. HA! -getting a headache -writing to the list and hoping I didn't sound as idiotic as I felt -reading the nice, easy answer that will be here in the morning while I ate breakfast. (hey- that's a case of "it happened tomorrow" What is that, future pluperfect? plu-pluperfect?) Aw, thanks guys! Looking forward to, er... already will be having used Analog again.
