Daniel,

Just as other stats, this tells you something about your visitors. Depending
on the amount of users/visitors using a specific type of OS and browser, the
webmaster has to change the content to suit the majority. If 80% of your
visitors still use IE5 on Windows98 machines, you can't offer high bandwith
multimedia pages, packed with the latest techniques and gadgets. The
browser/OS tells you that your visitors don't care for the latest
techniques/equipment.

In the event of a personal website without regular visitors that might be a
bit over the top, but in my case as Technical Webmaster of the dutch Mazda
MX-5/Miata Club with a lot of regular visitors this information is very
important for the path to follow in the future...

Jeroen

| Since the question has come up, may I ask why this stat is of value to
| people? I'm not being facetious here - I've noticed the stat but I
| haven't figured out what it might tell me about my visitors or what I
| could do with it. I'm only using Analog in an Intranet environment, so
| I imagine my situation is different than most of the rest of you.
|
| If some of you could share the ways you use the OS stat to make
| decisions or changes, I'm very curious about it. If it seems important
| enough, I'll get panicked about the move to Vista as well. :)
|
| Thanks,
|
| DS
