That's what I love about lignux people: call Microsoft "Borg" and say not Linux is irrelevant, often in the same sentence. (besides, AFAIK autoconf does a pretty > good job on e.g. HPUX and Solaris). On Solaris, specifically, building 64-bit shared objects with Workshop tools never worked. Building 32-bit statics with gcc/ld usually does. The other two options may or may not work -- if you consider 1 out of 4 a "pretty good job"... well, I've nothing to add.
