And here's the problem. The future of Android. My thoughts on this
below, but first: Let's agree for a moment that this contest is not
going well. And also put feelings about the nice price money aside.
With this: following the release of the SDK, the ADC 1 is the second
event that the general public can relate to. If this thing ends in a
train wreck tomorrow, and the concerns that have been posted here over
the last week are picked up by Slashdot, WSJ and so on, Google as the
banner child of the OHA will end up with egg on their face. There's no
doubt in my mind about that. And there isn't even a single phone out
yet? This will make a lot of people rethink, including myself. I am
certainly not giving up my dayjob. And my motivation to do stuff on my
on time will deflate if this thing does not end in a way that we feel
is alright. Heck, even if my two submissions make it, I will still
consider walking away from Android. Just because it seems such a
stinker. I am sure many others will feel the same. I am more than
happy to concede defeat if every submittal got more than just a
superficial glance. In the extreme, just to make my point: Monday
might end up with a bunch of dogs, some perhaps selected because
judges tried to hook up their buddies with 25grands (i.e. fraud),
while apps that can cure cancer or make the Giants have a .500+ season
(;->) were left in the bucket, because they were not even halfway
decently evaluated. Yes, 1700+ is a lot, but then, if this is more
then expected on April 14: It is not too late to take action. The ADC
is no stranger to delays anyway.
