This is exactly why Lorenz is right to suggest that this is something Google should do: because only Google is in the perfect marketing position to make sure the tool actually gets used. Also because as you hint, it is a major task, and Google certainly has the resources for it. I doubt that Lorenz does, I know I don't. Device Anywhere might, but again, they are not going to expend the effort without a reasonable guarantee that it gets used.
