Hi, I'm seeing the precise same problem - though in my case the issue started with my being no longer able to export my apk. (Issue described here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7866723/dx-bad-class-file-magic-cafebabe-or-version-0033-0000-with-adk14).
Eventually, I tried to reinstall Eclipse (Classic) and the ADK/ADT. Big mistake, as that has now led to the same problem that you describe above. It is possible to use "open with..." on the XML files, but the layouts (those that work) don't update correctly when used like this. In addition, I've noticed that the layout editor now seems unable to handle drawables defined as XMLs as well as (at least some) layout references. These were drawables and layout references that functioned flawlessly until recently, now being dismissed as not being valid. On my Linux laptop (where I can still build APKs - for now), the layout editor suffers from the same issue with invalid drawables and layout references. The upgrade to ADK14 has essentially rendered my primary development PC useless, as I can neither develop effectively (not being able to edit layouts) nor build the apk. And thanks to the changes in the library structure, trying to go back to ADK13 will be a major pain. Should have learned my lesson from the last major ADK/ADT upgrade. :-( Regards, Michael A.
