On devices where you have to hit a hardware key to get to the overflow menu, almost nobody will *ever* come up with that idea on their own. You cannot force the overflow on 4.x devices. It is even worse than that when the manufacturers have gotten a hold of it. Certain phones, like the Galaxy S III, will not show an overflow menu in portrait, though they do in landscape. You need to push the menu soft key, which, most of the time, is completely dark until pressed, meaning you have to push the button *before* knowing what it is.
