Does the iPhone emulator runs ARM binaries, if not, it simply is crazy fast because it runs x86 code instead of the stuff that actually goes into a real device. The Android "simulator" build product does the same thing and is very fast (on the other hand everything runs in a single process, so don't test your apps with it :-))
