I guess the other question is, if its your app, why do you need to download it from Market? As far as providing free copies to reviewers, you can just host the APK on your own server behind a password protected page that you share the password to your reviewers.
More logcat context would be useful here. There's no additional explanation of what went wrong? Failed installations, at least from adb, usually report more reason for the failure.
