Hello Eric,

Yes, of course I know that Google is not a hardware manufacturer. Google is
a "free" service provider. Gmail, Google Map... All these services are given
at no charge. So what is Google's business? Google's business is information
:

Google provides quality services for free. And, in return, Google collects
information from the use of the services. Then the collected information is
sold to big customers.

OK, Google is not a mobile service provider. But Google needs to be on the
mobile's side. Why? Because collecting information from mobiles is really
interesting! Right now, Google is mainly collecting information from fixed
PCs. But don't you see the next revolution comming? It will be the "mobile
WEB". This is a new big revolution. There are lot of service to build.
Google can not miss this revolution. Google can not let anybody else take
the first place.

Unlike Apple, Google does not care about the OS itself... The Google's real
interest is to develop services (so it could collect information). That's
explain why Google is building an open mobile platform. Google wants to
encourage anybody to develop services for the Gphone, using its API.

So, as you can see, the mobile WEB is a very strategic goal. With
"MobileMe", Apple is trying to take the first place... Therefore, I am sure
that Google is ready to put lots of money in the fight.

Question : Why do you think that Google wanted to by the licence for mobile
telecommunication?

Regards,

Denis
