I got it to work using FoxyProxy. As several people have pointed out, the default firefox proxy will not work.
btw, it's pretty slow when it does work, so this is more for occasional internet access than a permanent replacement for your home internet connection. But if you're near a T-Mo hotspot and you just need to log in to check your whatever, it's great.
