Hi,

I'm the developer of Abduction, so I just thought I'd throw in my
numbers for the discussion.

The actualy downloads are at the upper end of the bracket, I expect
it'll jump to the next bracket within a week or so. I'm surprised to
report that I get very few refunds. Maybe 1%? I put that down to
having a good sized demo available, so it's only people who already
really like the game buying it.

The main problem I have is with people having incorrect credit card
details causing the download to fail, and getting bad feedback because
this isn't clear enough in the market itself. I would guess I lose
5-10% of sales because of people who try and fail to purchase and gave
up.

My conversion rate is just under 3%. I don't know if that's a good
figure, but I'm happy with it. Judging by the emails I get, this
figure will be slightly higher when other countries get paid apps.

Undoubtedly having the demo featured has helped a lot, but as to "what
qualifies the app for that favourable placement?", I have no idea - I
just was asked by google one day. I'd guess they just go through the
market every now and then and select games they like, I don't imagine
there is any mystical algorithm being used.

I agree with schwiz below - there are games where I've enjoyed playing
the demo, but a game has to be something really special to pay $5 for.
I can go and get a console game in a throwout bin for that price. On
the other hand, I'd buy an app for $1-2 purely on impulse.
