I'm not sure of the point of your argument, are you concerned that root
access is supressed on carrier-distributed phones? Or are you complaining
about the lack of VPN support? Or perhaps you have something to say about
the openness of the platform?

If you want to avoid being attacked and thought of as a troll, split up your
topics and use a more constructive dialog, instead of broadly stating the
whole platform is rubbish simply because it fails to satisfy some of your
requirements. Or alternatively, switch to a phone/platform that does exactly
what you want.

Maybe we should leave the flames around minor topics around my primary
critics. If you re-read my first posting you will find out that I am not
asking for a rooted phone in the first place. My argument is this: a phone
like G1 should have vpn (and should have some smartness as a phone).
Lets assume someone wants to do a vpn app. It's really of no use to do that
_only_ for rooted phones - that is no interesting market.
On the other hand it really looks like it cannot be done from a third party
for non-rooted phones (can you change the routing table as non-root?). Now,
who is to blame for that?
