Here in Germany, for example free credit cards just came up a few years ago,
and nobody needs them since our debit card system is so strong and cheap,
especially for the retailer, so that you can rarely pay with them in the
store, and because of that only people who got them for free use them. But
most people don't even have one. The exception are here people who travel
often, or individually outside of europe, or rent cars more often. On top of
that your bank normally allows you to overdraft your debit account 3 times
your monthly income, which gives you a nice "credit".
