I think the guys at DeviceAnywhere have a pretty good alternative to  
loaner devices.

I'm more interested in getting an actual device so I can have at least  
one QVGA, HVGA, and WVGA so I can physically get a feel for the  
devices and have my own way of testing each resolution.
