ADC2 was a lot more about app idea/concept marketability and popularity than necessarily innovation/uniqueness, although the latter was one of the scoring criteria. I personally judged many of these Education/Reference apps. A couple were unique and fresh, whereas others were just rehashed versions of existing web/mobile apps. It basically boiled down to which apps had mass market appeal. Perhaps a lesson for the future is for developers to understand the mass market mentality a little better: what's innovative and out-of-this-world doesn't always translate to success with users.
