As far as getting traces off the phone, this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/601503/how-do-i-obtain-crash-data-from-my-android-application has worked for me (assumes app with Internet connectivity and a host that the dev maintains). I maintain a web site for each of my apps, so a host to offload the traces was easy to come by.
